Workforce

Scottish Government remains committed to delivering a more competent, confident and valued social service workforce, as a major contribution to realising its single purpose of a more successful country, with opportunities for all to flourish through increased sustainable economic growth.  Doing so creates more successful and skilled individuals  and strengthens the vital contribution made by this diverse workforce to individuals, families and communities.  Our aim is to ensure that we have the right number of staff with the right skills in the right place at the right time.

Improving recruitment & retention

The aim of this workstream is to support how social services employers recruit and retain a workforce of sufficient size and nature to meet client needs and in light of the broader recommendations of Changing Lives. This will involve identifying the future recruitment needs of the sector and developing policies which balance support for the recruitment of people not presently working in the sector and developing those who do.

Retention of staff will be supported through implementation of the National Strategy for the Development of the Social Service Workforce and the Improving Front Line Services Framework. The Scottish Government remains committed to raising the profile of the range of employent opportunities in the sector and we are currently discussing with stakeholders how future recruitment and retention issues should be addressed.
